On March 11 and 12, 2016, Red Bull Air Race started into the new World Championship season. For the ninth time already, the spectacular air race took place in Abu Dhabi, over the waters of the Arabian Gulf.

Event
The Red Bull Air Race series was inaugurated in 2005. The racing calendar takes both racing teams and spectators to some of the most renowned racing hot-spots around the globe such as Royal Ascot, which is famous for its horse races, or Indianapolis Motor Speedway, home to Indianapolis 500 or Brickyard 400.

The technical set-up on site literally has to cover long distances while meeting complex quality needs. The following article takes a look at the fiber network solution as well as the mobile production units used to meet the sophisticated requirements for this event.

Rules and Regulations
During the race, the pilots have to individually navigate an obstacle course against the clock. The course includes some tricky slalom passages through “air gates” which consist of inflatable pylons and, therefore, guarantee some fancy maneuvers for the fans. In this set-up, the pilots have to pay attention to incur as few penalties as possible to finish the race in the fastest possible time.

After a pause of three years in which safety and technology were significantly improved, the racing series took off again in 2014.
