Broadcasters and production companies are in a transition: from HD towards the capabilities of Ultra HD (4k and HDR); and from SDI to standards-based IP connectivity. This creates a requirement for powerful, reliable and transparent conversion devices in the infrastructure.
The FOR-A FA-1616 is a multi-channel signal processor designed to fulfil this role. It supports simultaneous processing of 4k and HD video, and has both SDI (including 12G-SDI for HDR 4k) and IP connectivity. Both SMPTE ST 2022-6 and ST 2110 are included.
At its simplest, it is an IP gateway, handling up to 32 channels of SDI/IP conversion in a single 1U cabinet. As well as bridging SDI and IP, it provides comprehensive up, down and cross conversion between HD and 4k, including repositioning and aspect ratio.
Colour correction is provided in RGB and differential modes, and dynamic range conversion is included for logarithmic curves such as HLG, PQ and SDR. Audio can be embedded or de-embedded and shuffled, and there is optional support for AES/EBU, MADI and Dante digital formats and analogue audio.
The FA-1616 can be synchronised by genlock over SDI or PTP over IP, and it provides frame, line and AVDL synchronisation for all inputs and outputs. It also acts as a crosspoint switch, routing inputs to outputs as required.
The system is controlled via a web browser, with monitoring via SNMP. Redundant power supplies are installed as standard.
